Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions customers ask BKM Electrical Services Limited
How much does it cost to get an electrician out?
Pricing depends on the job size, materials and time required, but we provide upfront quotes with no hidden fees. Most small residential jobs start from a standard call-out rate plus labour. Contact us for a quick, accurate estimate.
Can you come out today?
Yes, we offer same-day service across South & East Auckland where possible. For urgent electrical faults, we prioritise safety and aim to arrive as quickly as we can.
Do you provide Certificates of Compliance (CoC)?
Absolutely. Any work that requires certification will include a CoC and/or Electrical Safety Certificate (ESC) as part of the job — no extra charges.
Does someone need to inspect the ditch before covering the conduit?
Yes, contact the power company and a representative will come and inspect the ditch and conduit. The representative will place a white sticker on the meter panel with a pass or fail notice.
What areas do you service?
We service all of South & East Auckland, including Papatoetoe, Manukau, Manurewa, Flat Bush, Botany, East Tamaki, Pakuranga, Howick, Takanini and surrounding suburbs. We also travel across wider Auckland upon request.
How often should I get my electrical system checked?
For safety, we recommend a full electrical inspection every 3–5 years for homes, and annual inspections for businesses, rentals and workplaces. Older homes or properties with frequent electrical issues may need more regular checks.
Can you help with installing EV chargers at home?
Yes. We install domestic EV chargers, garage charging outlets and dedicated circuits to safely charge electric vehicles at home. We also advise on the best setup for your property and car model.
Do you replace old lights with energy-efficient LED lighting?
Absolutely. LED upgrades are one of the easiest ways to reduce power bills and improve lighting quality. We replace old halogens, incandescent bulbs and fluorescent fittings with modern, long-lasting LED solutions.
What should I do during a power outage in just one part of my house?
If only part of your home is without power, it’s usually a tripped circuit or faulty socket/wiring issue. Reset the switchboard — if it keeps tripping, call us immediately. Continuous tripping is a sign of a dangerous fault.
Are smart home upgrades worth it?
Yes — smart switches, automated lighting, WiFi controls and digital security help improve convenience, energy savings and home safety. We install and set up smart home wiring tailored to your system and lifestyle.
